I thought long and hard about whether I was going to post this. I decided to, since I feel I must contribute to the other women who will one day google this and feel comforted by my story. At the very least, it will make for a good laugh for everyone else. Read on and you will understand....I will give you every detail so you fully see the picture.
About two weeks ago I decided to take a mini-bath and shave my legs (this is a rare occurance 9 mo preggo.) Then I stood up and took a shower. The bathroom had a good cleaning a few days before. No new cleaners. I also use soap while I shower, also not new. Not surprisingly I had to pee once I was finished showering. I dried off and went to the bathroom, then headed to my room to get dressed.
SO-- upon returning to the bathroom I noticed (I am very detail oriented so yes, I did notice right away) that suddenly my toilet had a light blue tinge to it. NOT there 10 min. prior. So I investigate. I look at the skylight for a possible shadow, I move the seat in different angles, I try to rub it off. I call in Steve. He looks at it, runs through all the things I just did and we are perplexed. Now a few minutes later, the seat is getting a darker and more noticeable blue. I bust out the Clorox wipes and scrub away. Nothing. Steve leaves and assumes we just have an old toilet seat and it must have been gradually fading. I however am not convinced. I then sit back down and notice that it is in the perfect shape of MY rear and thighs. GREAT. It is my fault and I dont know why!! You better believe I then went back to my room and looked in the mirror. There was no blue on my hiney. So obviously, my husband must have used something in the tub that I sat in that didnt come off with soap and reacted with the toilet seat. Negative. Now before you all make assumptions let me remind you. No new cleaners, no new soap, no new jeans or clothes, I had just got out of the shower! (and I have used the bathroom right out of the shower plenty of times!) I run through all possibilities for a couple hours (this doesnt just happen!) and then I decide to Google-it. Steve thinks Im nuts and says just leave it alone and we can go get a new one. Ignoring him I type in "toilet seat suddenly turned blue." THE FIRST HANDFUL OF HITS WERE ABOUT PREGNANT WOMEN TURNING THE TOILET SEATS BLUE!! Now I am in shock, and so is my husband! So I am a freak who is not a freak alone! What the heck is going on!??! Now I am captivated by my magical talent and afraid to use any other toilet ever again. Here is the concensus...it has no medical backing, it apparently happens to pregnant women past 30 weeks, there is no explanation, but considering there are multiple women that this has happened to, it is not a fluke! The only slight explanation I came across (again nothing scientific or medically proven) was a sudden surge or drop of hormones. (It also has been reported to change the seats a pinkish-purple too.)
I call the consulting nurse and first off tell her I am not giving her my name or ID number because I do not want my following question in my file. I prepped her that this was going to be the strangest thing she has ever been asked. She doubted me. Then I proceed. After she was finished laughing at me, she said it was the oddest question and she asked around the office, more laughter, and couldnt help me. I then called my mother in law to check her bathroom since I had been there the night before. Totally normal. And now two weeks later, I have had no other problems. It must have been (totally an assumption) a possible drop/surge in hormones, my damp skin and whatever hangs out on your toilet seat all reacting together. (I was praying it was a sign, but considering Im still pregnant, it wasnt.)
So if there is anyone else out there whom this may have happened to, please leave a comment! Or leave a comment of humor. (I have already heard all the smurf and blue baby jokes possible so you can leave those out.) Feel free to pass this link on/repost it so others may be informed of this phenomenon, or at the very least get a good laugh at a 9 month pregnant woman! :)
Yes!! I am 24 weeks pregnant and this phenomenon has occurred. I thought that perhaps it was fading due to an old toilet seat but it is still relatively new. Not to mention this has never happened before in any of the toilets I have owned throughout all the apartments and houses I have lived in! Is it really hormones?
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if it is Prenatal Vitamins...but some of the posts are from women NOT taking them-perhaps thought they are taking some other supplement because of changing hormones. Of course my other thought was abnormal hormone levels.
DeleteThe ONE thing I have noticed not just from this page is that it is ONLY WOMEN responsible for changing things colors. If I have missed a single male with no women using his toilet seat someone let me know!
Single male and it happened to me. No question. It was only me using the facilities. AND it happened on the vinyl seats of my car, through my clothes of course! I was on a long trip i got out of the car and saw a blue tint and thought I sat in something and transferred it to the seat. I used some window cleaner on the car seat an it came right off.
DeleteVery strange.
I am 67 years old and it happened to me. I live alone and it's only on my downstairs toilet seat. (the one I use the most). When I first noticed it, I replaced the toilet seat. That was just a few weeks ago and now the new seat is blue! What the ?????
Deletewow..this just happened to my toilet seat sometime between early morning and noon time...use it this morning and it was white..just me and my 14 yo grandson..I am 54 and have haqd a hysterectomy..so..it is not a pregnancy thing...really weird..when I googled this I figured there would be not results..glad there was..now I don't think it is ghosts..still confused though.
DeleteI've also been having this blue toilet seat mystery and I'm not pregnant. I was reading everyone's posts and I think it happens to me when it's about to be my time of the month. This started about 6 months ago. Really weird.
DeleteHas anyone figured out why this is happening? I am tuning everything blue... Sheets, toilet seat, tub. I have no idea why???? Any one???
DeleteMy 13 year old (now 14) daughter has turned her toilet seat blue...and now that you mention it, her sheets are also bluish. She is not pregnant, but I think this happened about the time she started her period. I've bought a new (plastic) toilet seat and new sheets, but I'm wondering if this will happen again. BTW, her toilet seat was was made of coated wood. Has anyone had their plastic seat turn blue?
DeleteWomen with bi-polar disorder can cause the toilet seat to turn blue due to a chemical imbalance.
DeleteMy ex-girlfriend turned my toilet seats blue. She did not have menopause, nor was she pregnant. She did, however, have bi-polar disorder. During her down-swings, I had to hide the knives. Hope this helps.
I also have turned my toilet seat blue, and have a slight blue ring in the toilet(we have well water & the other 3 toilets have the normal rust tinge, and I use the same cleaner in all 3, it's not blue. Anyways I had hysterectomy 20yrs ago, but was in recently for blood work, they said my estrogen was low, progesterone was even lower and my testosterone was pretty much super low. My thought is that it has to do with hormone in balance, so it would make sense that pregnancy, before period or menopausal times could cause this.
DeleteI was at work today and noticed that the toilet was starting to turn purple. We all have to wear black pants so I thought that maybe someone had new black pants. I, as well looked at my bum and saw no signs of blue or purple. I noticed that throughout the day the color was progressively getting darker. I go to the bathroom more than most of my co-workers due to bladder issues and I must say, it could be the shape of my bum. I was going to say something like: "Has anyone noticed that the toilet seat is turning purple?" I'm glad I didn't, what if it is me? I'm terribly embarrassed that it might be. I am on my period today and was not yesterday. The toilet was white yesterday. This is a work place.. eeks!!! Do I say anything? Its obvious that I pee more often than my younger co-workers. Does it have to be replaced? I have had other periods there before and this has not occurred. I take B-vitamins everyday and I might be pre menopausal. Could this contribute. Honestly, should I tell someone that it might be my fault? :(
DeleteI read comments regarding this blue color appearing on the toilet seat, and i am so glad i am not the only one going through this. I recently started getting hot flashes and i am more than sure its about the hormones going hay wires this is why the toilet seat turns blue it is definitely all about hormone changes. My older sister had same thing happening to her except her sheets would also turn dark blue this has not happened to me but the toilet seat did turn blue on me it happens now and then. Also i am not pregnant. Thanks for having this posting.
DeleteMy girlfriend is leaving a blue stain on the toilet she also has a lokaii bracelet that has turned purple. She is about to get her period. She also sufers from CRPS and takes medication. I thought it could be the medicine but nothing has changed in the past year. Odd but hormones seems to be the common factor.
DeleteI am so glad I found this page - I was wondering if I was imagining things. I noticed this 2 days ago and I am not pregnant, though I am approaching my period. I need to get that blue off because I am currently living in a serviced apartment. I wonder if bleach will help.

DeleteIt's just the dye on your blue jeans rubbing off on your skin and transferring to the toilet seat. Usually on soft toilet seats. This happened to our household, and usually happens most in girls bathrooms, because we sit. Some of the jeans now a days have so much dye that it transfers very easily. At first I thought it was a phenom, but then at the beginning of summer I got a new seat, started wearing khakis and other linen clothing. No blue seat. This fall I started wearing my heavy clothes and blue jeans again. Instant transfer. Maybe it happens more with hormonal people? I don't know....it could be that people are just searching for a reason but it is basically just a dye transfer.
DeleteI know it is not jeans because it happens to me and i do not wear jeans.
DeleteI am 60 yrs. old and have the same problem as you all. This only started in the last year or two and I don't take hormones, only multi vitamins, fish oil and eat pretty healthy foods... can't seem to figure it out and don't understand why Web MD doesn't have ANYTHING on this topic... Lost !!!
DeleteI definitely had dye transfer from black pants I had on today. Combination Rayon/polyester/spandex ... It was all over my legs/thighs/butt. It transfers as a purplish color which others might see as bluish. The pants transferred to my neighbors ivory colored throw - mortified I came home and showered - after soap/scrubbing with washrag - it still had to be rubbed additionally with a towel - leaving bluish/purple stains on the towel... Just noticed my relatively new toilet seat has the bluish/purple stains where I sat before my shower. Found this article/comments while trying to figure out how to clean my toilet seat - scouring powder has not worked.
DeleteThanks for your post. Was freaking out over blue stained fitted sheet in the area where my back lays. It now makes sense that it's from a black tee shirt that I recently purchased and haven't washed, but wore it 5 times! Whoops!
Deletei just found this post after googling my blue toilet seat. i'm so glad to see i'm not alone in this but i still wish i knew what is causing it.
ReplyDeletei'm almost 29 weeks and noticed a few days ago that the toilet seat in our house has turned blue. i completely blamed my fiance. thinking it was unwashed jeans or something. then i go to the restroom at work today (small office/one bathroom) and notice that the blue is starting here as well. GOOGLE GOOGLE GOOGLE. after apologizing to my fiance for blaming him (as he laughed hysterically) i found your post and felt soooo much better. at least i know i'm not crazy.
so, thank you.
:-)
Hmmm.... I to found this site after MY toilet seat turned blue in the exact shape on my rear end (embarrassing!) lol. After the blue seat discovery..i also found my underware which were a pretty shade of peach had also tuned blue. Heres the kicker though... Im not pregnant even a little bit and have not been pregnant for nearly 8 years now. So I am extra puzzled. No new clothes, soap, ect either. I do struggle with hormone spikes though when ovulating. So There must be somethign to the hormone explanation. Thanks for the post Kayla.
ReplyDeleteDo you tend to have mood swings? I'm trying to figure this out since I am in the same boat. I tend to have bad mood swings and wondering if my hormones are swinging out of control like a pregnant woman.
DeleteReplying to this string because I am not pregnant; however, I just turned 47 and this started last year at old house. Thought I was crazy or used too strong of a cleaning solution. Just moved into new place, and it has already turned the seat in master bath blue too!! Will be making an appointment to get my hormone levels check ASAP.
DeleteI have had it happen too... and also my sheets are tinged blue as well. I thought it was because I sometimes wear dark jeans and the color rubs off. But now I am wondering if it is just ME. I completely changed my diet a few months ago so I am wondering if that caused it.
DeleteOkay, so I'm guessing this has something to do with a chemical change that isn't exclusive to pregnancy. My toilet seat turned pink right where my tiny hiney and thighs touched. (YIKES!) The toilet in question is barely 1 year old, so it's not age-related, and I haven't been pregnant since 7 yrs ago. But, I did just start a Rx for Levofloxacin 3 days ago(flu and sinus infection). The pill itself is bright orange, but that's the only new thing going on that I can think could have magically changed my toilet seat. Wish it would've turned blue instead, it would've gone better with my decor! lol I'll be curious to see if anyone has come up with the actual cause and/or solution to removing the stain!
DeleteI still turn toilet seats blue and it started when I was pregnant with my third and she is 2.5 and I am still doing it. It has turned my underwear and sheets blue too. I gave my son a bath last night and he remarked how the water was blue since I had my feet in the bath with him. Please someone post if they figure it out. I have gotten hormone testing done for other purposes and nothing that would indicate a huge imbalance (low progesterone but that is it).
DeleteI got chewed out for using the wrong cleaner by my husband because the toilet seat was becoming blue....ha! Since then, I have turned my toilet seat, my sheets, my underwear/bra-pretty much everything I touch-VERY BLUE. This has been happening for about a year now. I have been trying to get pregnant for a while (longer than a year) and have had four (4) miscarriages. They say low progesterone has been causing me to spontaneously abort at all different weeks-they say this because they can find no other reason why I cannot carry to term..
DeleteOf note: I have also been diagnosed with brain cancer (specifically in my pituitary gland-"pituitary adenoma"). It has been throwing ALL my hormones off, not just my sex hormones but definitely including my sex hormones. I wish SOME scientist/doctor would investigate this phenomenon!
Same situation here- 30 wks along & I turned the puffy white seat blue! It has gradually grown from slight light blue to a blatantly blue toilet seat. We are having a boy btw ;-)
ReplyDeleteI hadnt been on my blog for a while (new mom busyness!) and just noticed all your comments. I had no idea I'd be a top hit on google for blue toilet seats. YES! The accomplishments! Well it is still a mystery to me with no explanation. I guess I'll see if it happens again in my next pregnancy.
ReplyDeleteIm 4 months pregnant and my toilet has turned a blueish-purple color too! The only other thing i noticed the same between our stories is clorox wipes!! I e never used them beforw until a few weeks ago.. Never happened before that! Has to be a chemical reaction, not hormones. Lol
ReplyDeleteI have this strange side effect too. I'm now 35 weeks pregnant but noticed it a couple months ago, thought nothing of it until it bacame really dark. My shade is a dark lavendar. Showed my husband and he said, "I'd know that butt print anywhere". I went crazy trying to clean it off with just about every product in the house with no change. Finally googled it and found a few threads, only comming to the conclusion (based on responses in the threads) that it is from a higher level of progestorone produced durring pregnency and while breast feeding. I was just relieved that I wasnt the only one going crazy about it! Guess a new seat is in order after this is done and over with. Glad you and others have posted about it!!!
ReplyDeleteAre toilet seat just turned blue recently...i my self am not pregnant but recently started a birth control pill that has no estrogen but lots of progesterone....after reading these post perhaps it is the progesterone levels doing it....but on the other hand my spouse is taking a testosterone suppliment....it could be the combo for all i know...lol
DeleteSame thing happened to me yesterday. The whole seat is blue along with my acrylic nails..WEIRD! Then today im taking a shower and shaving my legs and the blue is like rinsing off my body..Im getting kind of freaked out because NOONE has an answer. I work for a dermatologist and 3 docs couldnt give me an answer so i called my doctor office and the nurse on the phone laughed and asked if someone was trying to play a joke on me??Does anyone have an answer as to why this happens?
ReplyDeleteI am not pregnant and this has just happened to me!!!! blue nails, blue seat in the shape of my behind! what gives???
DeleteThis happened in our house too. Yesterday I had blue nails - thought it was black ink and then the toilet seat happened last night. Freaky
DeletePS I am not pregnant. Maybe pre-menopausal.
DeleteMy wife just turnned our seat blue. She is just over 8 months pregnent. This blog helped her from feeling crazy. Thank you. As to a cause, we can't find one. But she did note that she used a clorox wipe to wipe down the seat right before she turned it blue. We are thinking its hormones and the wipes in combo. I might test the theory out in my bathroom with my non-pregnent butt and some wipes
ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious. My husband was going to pick up more at the store. I have noticed it and my white underwear turning blue too. So glad that I am not alone. As a note I am at 9 months post partum and did not notice it when I was pregnant, just nursing. Lovely!
ReplyDeletehmmm...we have blue seats also, but neither I nor my daughter are pregnant, I am too old and she is too young, we did use clorox wipes; however, one seat was brand new and turned blue with the first use. any input?
ReplyDeleteAre either of you under an abnormal amount of stress, because my wife is for sure not prego and it's happening to us.
DeleteI am 53 years old and I have turned our toilet seat blue with the clear imprint of my bum. I do not know what is going on, but assume it has to be a chemical imbalance. Since I am not taking any new meds prior to this happening I can't blame it on that. The weird thing is this started last week out of the blue. Nothing will clean the stains off.
DeleteI posted below that maybe it is hormones cos Im def not pregnant either but menopausal - however after reading June 19 - I am under an enormous amount of stress and its started on our work toilet as well as home so....?
DeleteMy EVERYTHING was turning blue! Toilet seat, sheets, clothes, mattress!!!! I had my cortisol tested because I gained 30lbs in 3 months on 700-1200 kcal/day. It came bacK 7x thet max for normal. In other words it was off the charts. I am being worked up for a pituitary adenoma as my prolactin is also way out of the norm. Cortisol typically increases with increased stress. It is the arousal or fight/flight hormone. If you area chill it is low- as you/your body is stressed it increases proportionately.
DeleteI live in a house with a married couple. This FREAk occurrence, and me trying to get to the bottom of it, led me here like everyone else! She and he insist that she is not pregnant. Does this warrant a pregnancy test??? We were having a blast with this mystery but upon the discovery of this sight I am the only one remaining that is enjoying the Mystery of the Blue Toilet Seat
ReplyDeleteCurt and the Douglass'
I am in no way pregnant, but I have turned 3 different toilet seats very purple...my side of the bed sheets (4 sets or more)...the insides of light colored underwear and pants...probably more stuff than that! It has been happening to me for at least the last 5 years. No clue why.
ReplyDeleteHave you gone to the doctor?
DeleteI am not pregnant but I have a toilet seat that turned purple. I'm thinking it is some kind of interaction between the oils on your skin's surface and the type of plastic your seat is made of. That's the best I've come up with, but I have no idea if that is true or not.
ReplyDeleteMy seat turned the pinkish purple too !!! I used the powder comet an a green cleanin thing and simple green an paper towels scrubbed off progesterone I read could be the culprit but it's a mystery
ReplyDeleteDid the comet, green scrubby and simple green work to remove the color?
DeleteNew jeans anyone? My new jeans made my underwear blue, my uggs blue, my nails blue, my seat in the car blue, and yes, my toilet seat too. Are any of you pregnant ladies wearing new maternity jeans?
ReplyDeleteFor me, I had nothing new. I refused to buy new jeans that far into pregnancy, just out of spite! lol. Nothing. It only happened that one time and just on my toilet. Im convinced it was hormones. The never ending mystery!
DeleteToday, the same thing happened to me. I was trying to figure out how my padded toilet seat turned blue. I don't wear too many blue jeans. I'm not pregnant. I tried bleach, simple green, bathroom cleaner, etc. and it would not come off. I simply don't understand why my white toilet seat turned blue with the shape of my bum. I was just trying to search for an answer on the net.
ReplyDeleteOMG... the same thing just happened! No ladies... it is not hormones. I am nearly 70, wearing the same old blue jeans for months, no Clorox wipes ever used. Scrubbing Bubbles does not do a thing to remove this light blue haze... ya, in the shape of my bum. Will await the solving of this mystery.
ReplyDeleteLOL! It is GREAT to know that I am not the only person with a blue toilet. At first, I thought that it was because I was going 'green' with my cleaning products. But, now I see that this remains an unsolved mystery. Yikes, I need to take a pregnancy test tonight! Crossing my fingers that I'm not preggers!
ReplyDeleteThis is the weirdest thing! My toilet seat and fingernails turned purple yesterday. This is the 2nd time in my life this has happened. I can't remember if I was pregnant the first time it happened. I can assure you, though, that I am not pregnant now because I am post-menopausal by appx 5 years. Why does this happen? I am disappointed by the information available online about this phenomenon. I would think that a medical organization would want to know what makes this happen. I guess it will remain a mystery!
ReplyDeleteI'm not pregnant. I am on birth control though. I noticed a weird shape on the floor of my shower. Automatically I blamed my husband. Clearly he was bringing something in on his feet. But, then I noticed the toilet seat as well. I also noticed that the blue shape in the tub was perfectly matched to my rear...I sit down to shave in that exact spot. I have noticed that it faded, but it did it again yesterday. My husband came running out of the bathroom trying to figure out what was happening to the seat. I told him I must be a smurf and not know it. Seriously, this makes me feel better. I am on birth control and I imagine that this keeps happening at the time that my hormones are increasing or decreasing. THANKS FOR THIS POST! I was convinced something was seriously wrong with me and I must be emitting something strange from my body.
ReplyDeleteWomen and our hormones! :)
DeleteMy pregnant wife's butt turned our toilet Blue... i believe it has to do with a certain body creme. i.e. Dermastine.Reason i think its the culprit is i had scrubbed it clean and she the proceeded to run out of this creme and we only purchased a replacement a week later...in this week no blue seat... once we replaced her creme the blue seat came back. i believe it has something to do with the oils or elastin in the cremes....ANY ONE ELSE USE CREME's on their butts?
ReplyDeleteNot preg, never been, no hormones, no pill or anything else related to women's health. However, I was (at the time) using mineral oil and a cocoa butter based lotion. Plus, I'm now 51, but that was nearly 4 years ago, so not in my child-bearing years - not for a long time now.
DeleteMy wife is 38 weeks prego and our toilet seat turned blue about 4 weeks ago. Just turned our bed sheets today and her side was blue! Ah the joys of a pregnant wife are many!
ReplyDeleteI'm 28 weeks pregnant, but noticed a few weeks ago our toilet seat has turned not blue but PINK!! A nice shade of pink too if I might add. It started off being very light, and is now dark. No clorox wipes until a couple days ago. No pink clothing, or new clothes, nothing new at all in my life the past 7 months, just the ever growing belly & hormones. Glad I'm not the only one changing the color of the toilet seat.
ReplyDeleteMy wife just increased her birth control from a .1 to .25 Progesterone level. Test 1 is under way, cleaned half the toilet seat with Clorox and styled HI! in the old birth control .1 mg (after cracking it in half) on the cleaned side. Will determine if the hormone in the pill is causing this to occur, not my wife is not pregnant :). Test 2 is to use the new pill with the higher dosage.
ReplyDeletei just walked in and there it was just right there and it is not even my size
ReplyDeleteSame here. Sheets on my side are blue, toilet seat is blue and the pregnancy pillow I use (just the part that goes between my legs) is blue too. Weird. It started when I was 6-7 months pregnant.
ReplyDeleteOK...I'm 60 and in no danger of being preggo's. Around 2 months ago my hubby and I were out for dinner and we got a bottle of red wine that was unfamiliar with dinner. He was driving so only had 1 glass, but I had a couple before deciding I wasn't thrilled with it. Next morning I woke up to find light blue staining on my $$$ white SHEETS around the pillows and shoulder on MY SIDE only. (No toilet seat stuff, just the sheets) Bleached them and all was fine until about 3 weeks ago when we had people over for dinner and killed some champagne. Next morning, same thing. Nothing on my clothes, white towels or toilet seat, just the sheets. It started with that red; it only happens every couple of weeks now and seems to be related to wine, but not every time I have a glass. BIZARRE!!! I'm researching on sulphites...but no answers yet.
ReplyDeleteI'm almost in tears b/c I just experienced the blue toilet seat. By the way, I'm at a friends house and I'm totally embarrassed and humiliated. Its 5am and I'm quietly trying not to awake her and hurry to clean the blue ring with multiple solutions but nothing worked. So now I'm up trying to figure out how to tell her what happened and I found this site. THANK GOD!!
ReplyDeleteOk now I'm in tears .:( I'm grateful that I'm not going crazy!!! I'm not pregnant and I'm 39yrs old however I'm in Nursing School and I'm under a tremendous amount of stress!! After reading the comments i don't know if going to the doctor will help.
Kayla, thanks for having the courage to post this b/c it validates that I'm not crazy!!!
Amen! My seat is Pink, and I'm not expecting! But, I am on a new medication for flu/sinus infection, and I believe that's my culprit. At first, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me and called my 6 & 9 yr old in to double-check. They didn't notice right away, so I REALLY thought I was losing it! Fortunately, after a double-take we confirmed I haven't lost all of my marbles yet. Now, I'm just eager to solve the mystery and BEFORE my *Magical* toosh transforms any other toilet seats!
DeleteI am on a new birth control pill and also just turned my toilet seat purple. I am not pregnant, but I can see how this new pill might be affecting my hormone levels. Thank you for this site.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree that it is a surge in the hormones, but not limnited to those ladies that are expecting! I am 61 and just started back on Estrogen pills 1 week ago after being off HRT for about a year.
ReplyDelete2 days ago the blue seat suddenly appeared! I had experienced the same problem about 2 years ago(while on HRT), but didn't connect it to the hormone pills at the time. I even returned the toilet seat to the store, telling them that it was defective. This time, I assessed that the only thing different about my routine was the Estrogen and had a feeling that must be doing it, and now that I read your blog and comments I am totally convinced that it has to be related to a surge in the hormones.
I am hoping that once my system gets adjusted to the pills, I will no longer have the problem, but will have to invest in a new toilet seat, as NOTHING will get the stain out, and I'm faced with looking at a perfect imprint of my legs and fanny every time I have to use the bathroom! Good think we have an extra bathroom for the guests!
Ahhh! So glad your fanny print was in a private bath, mine is in the main floor bath for EVERYONE!! And, though I'm not pregnant, I teach natural childbirth classes in my home, so I'll have lots of expectant mama's getting a lovely view of all my glory! lol
DeleteIt first happened at my home a couple of years ago...and by the way it does go away...and then it returned again..and again...I am 58..not pregnant...and my hormones may be off...but i also have a 13 yr old granddaughter that has poly-ovarian-cystic-syndrome(POCS)and that is definately a hormone issue. However dont change your seat it goes away in time
DeleteOMG this is happening to me too. Crazy! Did it happen during your second pregnancy too? It didn't happen my first pregnancy. I am in shock.
ReplyDeleteOkay ladies... thank you I am so curious now! I am am not pregnant but I am getting my period and I had the norovirus... after a long day of sitting on the toilet it turned blue!! I did get out of the shower once and sat directly on the toilet... but this is crazy! Bleach is not even making it come off!
ReplyDeleteI am so curious if this has ever happened to men!?
ReplyDeleteWell, it happened to mine and I'm not pregnant, not on hormones, or creams, and no new jeans. My son told me tonight, it has happened to his toilet seat upstairs too. Really a mystery!
Deletei didn't think I was pregnant until I realized today that I haven't got my period in a month or so and my boyfriend realized that I had turned our toilet seat purplish color today. this has never happened to me before and everywhere I have look has said that this happens to most pregnant women.
ReplyDeleteI found this today after trying to find an answer to why I was turning my seat blue http://www.mamiverse.com/bizarre-pregnancy-symptoms-15980/
DeleteTHIS HAPPENED TO ME!! I'm 38 weeks pregnant. We just replaced our toilet seat after the last one turned blue. My husband thought it was from dye in his underwear. He threw out his underwear like two months ago. New toilet seat now has the same blue tinge...I had no idea it was me!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat. The. Hell.
This has happened once in the past and I can't remember what the outcome was, but our current white toilet seat again abruptly turned blue-ish within the past week or two. I tried to remove the blue colour using soap-based cleaners, bleach, isopropyl alcohol, ammonia, and orange oil, but nothing worked, so I must conclude that the change is not affected by normal solvents.
ReplyDeleteOne recent change (1-2 weeks ago) in my wardrobe is purchase of a generic brand of black stretch pants, but I haven't seen any color changes in other fabrics or garments exposed to these pants. I do apply baby oil to my dry skin after every shower so it's possible that the mineral oil in this prep enhanced the stainability of the stretch pant material, but I have never been directly wearing the pants when I sat on the toilet.
One explanation offered in another post is that Bemis® wooden toilet seats (this is the toilet seat we have) has a blue paint underneath a white overcoat in order to make their seat look more white and so the wearing away of that coat reveals the blue undercoat. This is a great theory but doesn't explain the sudden appearance of the blue undercoat or how exposure to some common wearing-down substance might produce this effect.
I must state here that any sort of hormonal influence, whether by pregnancy or menstruation or whatever is completely illogical. Such hormones can influence melatonin-producing cells (causing brownish pigmentation changes to certain parts of the skin) but would not result in any process that would turn an inert object blue.
This is happening to my 17 year old SON. He is the only one who uses his restroom. We thought it was maybe new clothing he received at Christmas, but we washed all of them before he wore them. Now maybe thinking hormones or change in diet? I don't know. I had never heard of this before. Crazy...
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to find out my toilet seat is not haunting me!! and no I am not pregnant, I am 50 (in 2 weeks) not sure what is going on but is driving me nuts. And the longer I sit, the darker blue the seat turns. I vagulely remmeber this happening once before but the memory is so faint as to me not being sure it even really happened before.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that I found this site! I thought I was going crazy! I'm 35, not pregnant, but taking a new kind of birth control. I have also tried every cleaner under the sun and nothing removes it. I was ready to go and get a new seat, but now, I won't because I'll probably turn that one blue too. My friends and family think this is hilarious -- I can't wait to tell them there are so many people that have the same experience!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to find this site. I'm 55 haven't been pregnant in 21 years and haven't taken birth control since my 30's! First noticed the light blue tinge (which is now the color of blue ink) on the podwer room toilet. Because we have a soft tushy seat our first thought was a puncture and mositure seeped in. Then I thought perhaps it's from my new jeans which are very dark in color. A few days ago I noticed the same problem on the master bedroom toilet which is a hard seat. Well at least I'm not crazy! Scrubbed and scrubbed and might be a tinge lighter but still there.
ReplyDeletePlease God, don't let me be pregnant!! I need to take a test!! I've recently started retaking the depo provera injection as a contraception. Perhaps this is a change in hormones?
ReplyDeleteAfter much Googling my theory is that the ionized silver anti-microbial coating on the toilet seats is being turned into silver salts by sweat during pregnancy (Probably by higher acidity caused by sweating out something: excess proteins, vitamin supplements, etc.). These silver salts are then exposed to light as in a gelatin silver print and over an hour or so are resulting in an even deposit of microscopic deposits of silver as a film across the seat. The process being similar to what happens in argyria, a blue-grey pigmentation of the skin caused by absorption of silver into the body. The microscopic deposits of silver will not return to their prior state and are not going to be bleached away. You would have to use acid so they are likely to be there for good. For non silver anti-microbials there is a dye called bromophenol blue which is a absorbed by some of the coatings but I prefer the silver deposit theory as I suspect silver anti-microbials are more common on toilet seats.
ReplyDeleteSo what about those of us that aren't pregnant??? Is it just sweating in general due to stress, heat etc?
Deletemy toilet seat has a blut tinge too i am not pregnant, thought i was going nuts until i googled it,
ReplyDeleteThis happened at my Aunts house last summer... I'm 29 and have never been pregnant but am on the pill. One morning the toilet seat was blue and we couldn't figure out why. It has never happened at home. I have noticed blue under my finger nails recently though... almost like I was scratching blue off of something. No idea why but good to know I'm not the only one!
ReplyDeleteMy toilet seat is blue.. but it's my fiance who's butt print it is.. not mine.. So.. What's with the blue?
ReplyDeletethanks to your blog I feel a little less crazy. I am 15 weeks pregnant do not have any new maternity clothes since this is baby number 3 and most of my stuff was bought second hand anyways. last week I noticed what I thought was a blueish shadow on the toilet seat in my bathroom (the master) didn't really think anything of it, until this morning I noticed it's getting darker. then I went downstairs and noticed that the bathroom on our main floor also has a bluish butt prints on the toilet seat. the toilet upstairs has a padded seat the toilet downstairs has a hard seat totally different materials. funny thing is there is no blue but print on the toilet in the kids bathroom. I don't use their bathroom something odd about bathtub toys like Ariel watching me pee lol. my husband has been out of town for the last 2 weeks. so no prank/joke and I can't blame him. I went to Google and found your article I have had very high hormone levels during this pregnancy my doctor actually checked twice for twins because of how high my hormone levels have been. * so far we've only found 1 baby. I also have very acidic and oily skin thanks to Mediterranean heritage.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe my hormones and my butt are turning the toilet seats in my house blue. Ps we rent oops .
thanks again for your article I feel a little less crazy, for the lady who said that a common denominator in your stories with Clorox wipes we do not use Clorox. we use natural cleaners like vinegar and citrus oils
My girl friend laughed when I suggested we Google her blue toilet seat. She sat in the bath and turned it blue first, then sat on the toilet. She is 51, never pregnant, doesn't drink, no med.
ReplyDeleteHas happened to me for many months, 52 no changes in dies, no new jeans and really aggravating and worrisome. Wish I knew what was causing this.. Oh and I also have a 13 year old daughter who just started her period this year and it happens to her also. The husband and sons just giggle that we girls turn the seat blue..Argh this is a legit problem..the Hormone things seems like it just might be the answer.
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one who is not amused with this? I'm 53, not pregnant, not on hormone's. It isn't my cloths, cleaners, ??? Possibly hormone's. I can't believe that with this many people having this issue there is not an answer. NOT AMUSED.
DeleteI'm with you. I am not amused. I am 51 (as of November 24th). I have no hormones (or very little) since my last period was in the early 90's. Today I sent a email to the AP and included a pic of the purple seat. I indicated that it is a national phenomenon. The demographic here ranged from teens to mature women. I don't take "the pill" either or anything related to hormones or reproduction. And I also cannot clean the stain. At first I was amused, but it's been almost 4 years now, since about the time this couple posted in 2011.
DeleteThank god I'm not the only woman thinking I have a disease! I just want to know HOW TO REMOVE THE STAIN??????? Tried Mr Clean Magic Erasure and NO LUCK! Plus wondering if need to see doctor but unsure what to get checked out for????
ReplyDeleteI used pure acetone (bought at Sally Beauty Supply, I use it to take of really hard to remove sparkly nail polish) put it on a paper towel and it took off most of the stain. It's still there but it is MUCH fainter. I did be sure to clean and rinse the toilet seat off after using the acetone on it.
DeleteI'm a 43 year old woman who has never been pregnant. I am overweight though. :) I take folic acid for my Rheumatoid Arthritis. That is the only thing I can think of that I have in common with pregnant women. It's embarrassing to have to tell people when they come over to not worry about the blue seat! :)
ReplyDeleteSomething similar has happened to me, although it doesn't concern the toilet seat.
ReplyDeleteI have woken up a couple of times to find a bluish imprint, in the shape of my body on my sheets. I bathe every evening, so it isn't dirt and I haven't eaten or drank anything unusual. Im not taking any drugs so can't explain why it happens. The stain comes out in the wash.
Hi, I hope your still reading these posts. Anyway, I've been doing research on this a long time. I started turning my official toilet seat blue (meaning the main toilet seat I use consistently) blue for over 10 years now which means 3 toilet seats in 3 different houses. It HAS HAS HAS to be hormone related. I have never been pregnant in my life. I am 33 years old, and I have never been on prenatal vitamins either. The funny thing is my hormones have always been CRAZY out of whack. For as long as I can remember my hormones have been a insane rollercoaster. Which would make sense why this keeps happening to pregnant women and women who are starting their journey through menopause. ANyway, hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteThis just happened to me... and I'm a 30 year old male.
ReplyDeletePseudochromhidrosis
DeleteThank Goodness for Google! This has just happened to me this week. On the 2nd July 2013 I turned my toilet seat a fetching aubergine shade. My hubby came to ask me if the toilet seat had always been this colour and he simply did not notice it. We were both incredibly perplexed. I am 45 and have never been pregnant, and I am not overweight. I live way out in the African bush. I turned my sheet on my side of the bed blue - both where my bottom and shoulders rest. Last night I noticed that I had turned my baby pink track suit pants a fabulous shade of ink blue, all the way around from the waist down the legs. I am incredibly stressed at the moment, and have really bad allergies. I have recently started a new anti-histamine, and went to search if any chemical in them could have caused all my "blue moments". Ironically these tablets are little blue jobs too. I think we women really are alien?
ReplyDeleteI am 61 years old. I have a soft toilet seat that went from white to blue on half of the top side within seconds. The color slowly deepened before my eyes. This seat is only a couple months old. The previous seat lasted for a year with NO blueing. I had changed it because of a small tear and replaced it with the exact same seat from the same hardware store. I did spray a fragrance in the air before the blueing. I tried spraying the same fragrance directly on the white half of the seat with no result. The blue does not come off with hydrogen peroxide or white vinegar. I have been a bit down in the dumps so thought my blue mood came out in a funny way. Good laugh here finding others with trick toilet seats. I hope there isn't a chemical inside causing this. I'm tempted to rip my (toilet) seat open to check what's inside.
ReplyDeleteAfter searching more for answers I think I've got one: Someone said that blue dye in clothing can go into the skin without showing the blue, and then be transferred to the toilet seat. I had bought a new pair of stretchy pants that look black, but the saleslady said they are actually a very dark blue. I did not wash them before wearing them. The days have been incredibly hot here. I do think it is dye from clothing. I also have a lot of joint pain and wonder if dye has anything to do with that, also. I am the 61 year old who just posted a little while ago. I am female.
ReplyDeleteI am a male who lives alone and seen this happen to toilet seats at home and at my camp (one is a soft seat, the other hard).
ReplyDeleteFrom reading all of this, my conclusion may be a recent change to black boxer briefs, which may be leaving something on my butt. Maybe the solution is to buy a black toilet seat!
I am a 53 year old man I recently changed my seat because it turned blue and thought the padding was bleeding through. I just cleaned the bath room and the new non padded wooden seat is changing. I can see a faint outline. My wife has not been pregnant for 26 years, and no pregnant people have used our toilet so I am not sure why. we have had 4 children and 7 grand children and this has never occurred. My son wants to know who has the smurf butt, I have no answer.
ReplyDeleteI, like most people who have responded here, was thrilled to see I wasn't alone in this oddity. I am a 59 year old female and until this month have never created a bluish tint. As of the last couple of weeks it's both on the toilet seat and on my sheets. However, I have made several changes in my life that could attribute to the condition.
ReplyDeleteMoved from Seattle area to Tempe, AZ the last week of July.
Retired. Less stress?
Temperature change - From average 65 degrees to average 110 degrees. Maybe body metabolizes differently in heat?
Spend hours a day in our swimming pool. Could it be a chemical reaction?
Eat differently. Committed to better eating so have been using the VitaMix to create green and fruit smoothies. Maybe detoxing?
Drinking more water. Again, maybe a detoxing thing?
Walking more.
Whatever the reason, I am now leaving a blue residue. My gut tells me its a chemical reaction both in and out that is detoxing my body. Glad to know I'm not alone but would be great to know what actually is causing it and the next question is does it stop once it has started??
OMG this just happened to me, and I'm a hypochondriac so of course I immediately thought something was wrong with my health. I'm less worried because I have found a few articles/blogs with the same problem. Though it's more common for ladies who are pregnant or postmenopausal, I don't think it's anything I should be too concerned about. I've never had regular periods, I can go months without having even a spot, or I can go weeks with having it. I'm currently menstruating and this is my first period in around 3-5 months, so I think my hormones are just going crazy. It's Going to be embarrassing to explain to my mom when she gets home though..
ReplyDeleteI'm 17 years old and there's no chance I'm pregnant, and I haven't tried any new foods, clothing, vitamins, or etc. I recently (it'll be 2 months next week) started taking Lamotrigine, & Quetiapine, but I think the staining would have happened earlier if the reason behind the stain was medication related.
Happy I found this article and now I know I'm not such a freak after all! Just wish there was a way to get rid of the stain, I guess I'll just have to keep checking back to this post to see if anybody has posted a product that works!
I am 45, just ending my period (and haven't been pregnant since 2004), no new soaps, detergent or clothing (not even wearing jeans right now since it's still so warm out), I am not nor have I ever been on birth control pills, I am not on ANY medications (haven't taken so much as an aspirin in several days)and under much LESS stress recently. I didn't use lotion today after showering. I haven't made any changes in my diet (I eat pretty healthy - very little boxed or canned food, no 'fake' stuff as much as possible).
ReplyDeleteI do suffer from severe chronic anemia and my condition is always worse during heavy menstrual cycles. My body does not absorb the iron through pills, transfusions or the iron shots so I don't bother wasting time taking iron supplements anymore. I don't even take a daily vitamin. I am considered on the thin side, well, 'very thin' side (5'4" and about 107lbs) but I have good muscle tone. I exercise very regularly = I'm a fitness and Zumba instructor with several classes a week. I do have to cut down sometimes when my blood drops really low but it's only for a few days to a week.
Tonight - purple-blue toilet seat right where I was sitting. Went STRAIGHT to Google.... and while I don't have any answers as to why it happened, it is SUCH a relief to know I am far from alone in this phenomenon!! It does seem that many others have had SOME change - a new medication or pregnancy, more stress or a change in diet - none of these are a match to my situation but, again, I am less freaked knowing my hiney isn't the only one turning things colors!!
Like everyone else, I have turned the toilet seat, sheets, back of night shirt, pillow and even under my nails that purple tint. I am 59 and first noticed it about 2 yrs ago when I was staying with a girl friend for a few months. I went and bought her a new toilet seat because it was the guest bathroom.
ReplyDeleteI have never been pregnant, am post-menapausal too and have both a patch and pill for hormone replacement. Lately, it seems like it is everywhere--- I have noticed using BLEACH in the wash removes purple until next time. But NOTHING works on toilet seat. I tried all the cleaners too, used acetone to remove from under nails too. It worked and I too tried acetone on seat. Made it lighter, but comes back.
I have an appt this Fri with gyn, so I am bringing it up. Have been too embarrassed before, but sounds like we all have the problem and no answer. I lived with and cared for my 94-yr-old mother for 12 yrs before her passing in 2011 and it never happened in her bathroom or on her sheets!
If I get an answer from the dr, I will pass it on. Has anyone thought of asking the tv show, The Doctors? They get all kinds of weird questions and they research until they find an answer.

DeleteIm a soon to be 38 ye woman, im not pregnant, but I've been having werid periods and my toilet seat is blue, how werid is that
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone have more tricks to cleaning the stain?!
ReplyDeleteHi Everyone well not to make things worse but I am male my son and I have separate bathrooms and my toilet seat has turned pink, not his just mine, not in the shape of my butt but the space in front not touched by my butt. Also noticed it on my freezer door where my hand would touch it to open it.Sorry to confuse things more but I cant explain it either.
ReplyDeleteOK... so I am not alone.... But no answers from the medical community...?? What's the deal? My gel nails turned blue the day after I was in the hot tub and my sheets were blue... I washed the sheets and this morning - back to blue.... Would love an answer.... Have a Dr. appt. coming up and if I get any new info I will relay on this thread.
ReplyDeleteIf it helps, I can at least add that this seems to be specific to the type of seat and the color of the underwear being worn - I've turned the seat both blue and pink at different times! This has only happened on one toilet in our house, which has a "less expensive" toilet seat cover. It has only happened after wearing a particular brand of underwear that I purchased in a pack that contained a blue pair and a red pair. After finally figuring out the underwear connection, I'll be removing that brand from my wardrobe and hope that solves the problem! Comet seemed to work best to remove the stain, although not completely. Someone else suggested acetone, which I think would be worth a try.
ReplyDeleteJust nice to know we're not all crazy! Thank you for sharing this!!!
After examining the evidence and observing our own habits, we firmly believe the cause is a chemical reaction between human sweat and body lotion. Will post back with more info after trying acetone to remove the stains.
ReplyDeleteI discovered the secret behind my blue stain!!! I have one pair of "workout" capri's that are a black/blue color. They are super comfortable to wear around the house.
ReplyDeleteFunny thing... every time I wear them for a few days in a row, my toilet seat turns that annoying, un-cleanable blue tinge! So ladies (and gentlemen!) check your drawers! lol
I'm guessing it's some kind of clothing dye. Maybe it reacts with certain body chemicals, or lotions, or it's just the dye itself. But I know for a fact that my source is my shorts! lol
Also, I found that repeated scrubs of rubbing alcohol onto the seat helped lighten the stain a little bit.
Good luck! I'm glad I'm not the only one (my husband thinks I'm nuts :D lol)
Thinking hormones? I'm 51, not pregnant or on pill, don't wear body lotion. But am menopausal and its happening on work toilet seat and home (purple). Only other connection with above is I do wear cheap black knickers! But surely once they have been washed several times the dye would no longer leach/react?
ReplyDeleteI am so relieved to know I'm not only one with the pink purplish tint. I first noticed area days ago bit dismissed it as we currently have red sheets on the bed. However I'm spending the amend with my elderly mom and entire outline of my honey was left.and I grabbed the pinesol and a rag abeyance rubbing gge toilet seat furiously. Nothing happened so I left it alone...until my mom went yo use the bathroom and questioned the discolorayion. I have been googlng and across this site. So I'm not pregnant and I am 47 yrs old...
ReplyDelete50 year old male and I began taking a more potent Omega 3 fish oil and by the next day my seat changed color (white padded turned purplish-blue). The only other change anywhere near the color change was a cran-rasberry I was taking with my aloe juice (Northumberland in liue of Ocean Spray). However I only use a small amount to make the aloe juice taste better.
ReplyDeleteThis is too funny...my wife is 30 weeks pregnant and our toilet seat just turned noticeably blue, just like the photo in this thread. I at first assumed it was clothing related as well, but after reading this, maybe not! Weird...
ReplyDeleteI too just noticed in the last 24 hours I have turned both toilet seats in my house blue, as well as my side of the bed sheets. Nothing at all is different about my routine, what I use to clean, no new clothes, no new medications, nothing. Oh and I am also not pregnant - I know this because I just took a test this morning. I can't imagine it would be a spike or decrease in my hormones, as this has NEVER happened to me before! I'm a little freaked out...
ReplyDeletethe answer is not listed anywhere here! I am a virgin, not on my rag, and I don't take any kind of medication. I've changed two of our toilet seats blue, and one is also overlapped with reddish pink. Like everyone else, the stains began faint but quickly darkened.
ReplyDeletemy undies are light colored, and nothing but the seats has been stained.
the fact that men and women- boys and girls are reporting this, means it's not an issue of pregnancy. it's not clothes, as I personally can attest. it also seems to arise out of nowhere, so it seems unlikely to be caused by an ongoing condition. The seat that prompted me to start googling about this, has been in our house for years without any discoloration, then tonight, all of a sudden, the porcelain is blue! And everybody knows what shape my butt is-- nobody wants to look at that!
I can't explain this, but I think we can rule out the more popular answers (preggers, dye) because they are not consistent with like 40-50% of our stories!
I've never had blue fingernails or sheets. no new bottoms being worn. I have been stressed lately, but not everyone posting here has been stressed, so probably that's not why it happens. the search continues
oh, and lotion isn't it, either. I don't use it. I do use Clorox wipes, but again, even people who use natural cleaners are reporting this. it's likely not Clorox's fault! we don't use those in the main bath, anyway. Only on the seat that is pink and blue.
I thought I was the only one. This has happened to me more than once. pregnancy was not a factor in my case though. My only child is 11 yrs old. However I am on birth control (depo shot)
ReplyDeleteFirst noticed the blue seats at work one morning and we are a group of middle aged woman 35-52 years- in very demanding and stressful positions. We had been in the new office building for 1 year but the blue stains appeared within a day.
ReplyDeleteThere are no pregnancies so I guess it has to be hormone related.
I'm 69, definitely not pregnant or trying. I've had the same toilet seat for 5 or 10 years. No new drugs or supplements. Most likely no hormonal changes at my age. No blue on sheets or clothing or skin.
ReplyDeleteThe toilet seat turned blue in what seemed like 20 minutes, but may have taken place imperceptibly over days or weeks.
One thing I noticed a few years ago was that a lot of dead skin builds up on the toilet seat despite cleaning. I usually don't use commercial chemical cleaning products, and would wipe the seat with hydrogen peroxide, vinegar and tea tree oil. After I noted the buildup, I started to scrub with Ajax.
I bought some black tights a few weeks ago, cheap Chinese made ones, which fit me perfectly in all dimensions, which is a true find for me, so I bought a few and wore them a lot. I also wore them to sleep. I washed them before wearing because they had an odd chemical smell to them. They didn't bleed and there was no coloration on me or anything else. But the tights were next to the skin.
This is speculation-- there was some chemical reaction with the paint or topcoat on this particular type of toilet seat. It may be that it affects women more than men because we wear our clothes a lot tighter. And pregnant women have have a little more body fat.
Who knows? It's a mystery. I hope someone can solve it.
Somebody wrote a long comment about chemicals and paints, etc. I'll have to see if I can find it again.
I'm 23 never been pregnant and am having blue toilet seat issues as well. But believe it or not my skin has turned my sheets blue. 3 years ago I went to the doctor for my hands being blue. They told me it wasn't Raynaud's disease but they couldn't tell me exactly what it was. The more I started paying attention the more I realize when I'm stressed or worried my hands will go blue. But it's weird because I can wash off the color off. I'm not wearing new jeans in fact I very rarely wear jeans and I'm not using any new detergents or cleaning products. So I wonder if it does have something to do with hormones.
ReplyDeleteOkay...I admit this has happened to me as well...on inexpensive vinyl toilet seats...TWICE ! At first I thought it was a new pair of jeans...but then it happened after wearing black leggings for awhile too. After reading everyone's post, I'm firstly delighted to know that I'm NOT the only one,{ misery likes company, I guess }. I'm beginning to think that this blue color is coming from the cheap seat itself. I'm beginning to think that the stuffing in the seat is causing this dye to show in the shape of "impact". I'm beginning to think that it's actually a very wise marketing issue. The stain is impossible to remove. I've tried EVERYTHING to clean it away...EVERYTHING...for real ! So, if it becomes stained, and the stain is non removable...we will buy a new seat... OKAY...I don't trust the Chinese manufacturers at all. I am going to purchase a more expensive vinyl seat and when I do, I shall cut open this stained one and reveal to myself what it's actually stuffed with ! Hmmm...it may not be "us" nor our chemicals...but staining from either deliberate stainable stuffing,{this is ridiculously funny...isn't it ?...or sad},or maybe it's NOT deliberate,{doubt that}, and just some cheap crap it's stuffed with that causes this from continued impact...anyway, it will definitely be my final effort at vinyl seats...and then our clothes are mostly made in China...LORD only knows what kinda cheap or even dangerous dyes these heathens are using !!! Oh man...we may have uncovered a GOD awful dye problem here, y'know ? Kinda like eating off of tainted Chinese dinnerware...y'know they say their glazes are POISONOUS !!! Hmmm...gonna get glass dishes too ! !
ReplyDeleteI Googled our odd problem with mysterious blue hiney shaded toilet seats and was shocked when Google suggested the search before I got past "Why is my toilet seat"! We've now gone through 3 to 4 toilet seats in EACH of our two bathrooms! I'm not pregnant, but possibly pre-menopausal. I've not changed cleansers, shower soap, etc., etc. I'm on meds, but I've been on the same ones for nearly 10 years. I've tried different styles and different manufacturers. Still after a few days, the mysterious blueish-purple hineys appear. The toilet my HUSBAND uses most frequently is much darker than the one I use most often .... very curious! I'm wondering if the manufacturers are using a different process, or something. BTW, cost has nothing to do with it since we've also tried the high end for our rear ends, lol! My next move is to call the company(ies) themselves for an explanation. BTW, I'm SO glad I'm neither alone nor crazy .... well at least as far as this issue is concerned!
ReplyDeleteI turned my seat blue last night. I'm 30 weeks pregnant with a boy (My first pregnancy). We moved to a house with a porcelain seat 2 months ago (before it was a brown, wooden one) and last night i looked down and BAM! it was blue and in the shape of my butt, I used cleaner to try to scrub it and it didn't even lighten up. I won't be replacing it until after the baby is here so i only have to replace it once (hopefully). I will ask my Dr about this next week.
ReplyDeleteI have hypothyroidism but I'm not prego and it just happend to me.
ReplyDeleteI have a bremis soft seat that has turn blue with the shape of my but it did this within days I look on the box than look on the computer I think it may be duraguard antimicrobial they put on the seats because I seen the color of this chemical and it is blue the color of ink this is my first time with this problem I have had soft seats before but it has been a long time and it also turn my pj's blue because it was on my skin I took this seat off and put the old one back and it has not turn blue it scared me because if it is this chemical what effect does it have on us and all these pregnant women and some men too I'am 62 years old and it is not our bodies I think it is the seats being treated with this chemical it needs to be tested
ReplyDeleteI'm eight weeks pregnant and this same thing just happened to me! Thank you so much for posting! My mother just laughed when I called. :)
ReplyDeleteI thought I was crazy for Googling this but to my surprise this has happened to someone other than me. I am not pregnant, nor have I ever been but this has happened to me recently! Although the color isn't blue but it's the same description, butt & thigh print!
ReplyDeleteOk my toilet seat turned blue also in the shape of my butt print! I had on new dark blue jeans but my butt was not blue! The Clorox whips didn't rub it off either. My boyfriend Googled the same thing & the next day I took a pregnancy test & shockingly I was pregnant! Only 4wks preggo.. I had a miscarriage & it faded away after about a month. But i'm pregnant again!! In my 5th month & No Blue Toilet Seat? So here it is ... for older women & pregnant woman this happens because of a hormone you get more of when preggo & during menopause you have to start taking this hormone as a supplement because you are lacking it. Also it only happens when your hormones are out of wack this is why my same toilet seat only turned blue the first pregnancy! I already knew they were & my doc suggested the Depo birth control shot to stop my periods to get them under control but we never got that far because I was pregnant. This pregnancy I feel normal again so I assume my hormones are back normal & why the blue seat didn't happen again. As for the man that this happen to, umm i'd go see a Dr asap! Lol ...
ReplyDeleteOh and for the women that are not pregnant, it's your hormones! Go get them checked asap!!
ReplyDeleteLadies I have the answer. Its the maternity leggins/tights that you all bought and are supposed to wash before use. And yes there is at least one man here who likes wearning maternity tights!
ReplyDeleteI can assure you it's not the 50 year old man!
ReplyDeleteCan it happen to 13 yr olds whose not pregnant becuz it just happened to me I was just chilling on the toilet and then boom I was shocked and I try to ignore it
ReplyDeleteI am currently 29 years old, but this has been happening to me since I was 24. I'm not pregnant, never have been, but I am taking birth control.. So my body thinks I am. it leaves a bluish purple print in the shape of my buttocks and thighs. Over the years I just got used to the fact that I was weird. Until last night I drooled bluish purple on my white pillow. Now I'm really baffled...colored drool!??!?
ReplyDeleteJust happened to me. 65, not preggers. Had to go back on wheat for two weeks for a medical test (all grains are acid forming). Took a ph test -- very acidic. Normal for me is neutral at 7. I'm not saying get off of wheat -- there are many things that cause acidity. I'm just saying check your ph. You can get papers at health food stores or drug stores. Good Luck!!!
ReplyDeleteI am so thankful for this post. I am not, nor have I ever been pregnant, but I just turned the toilet blue 10 minutes ago and am freaking out. I know we have not figured out the cause, but have we figured out a cure for my toilet seat? I only have one bathroom in my house, and I really don't want all of my guests seeing the exact imprint of me dropping a deuce. Clorox wipes did nothing. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteThis is seriously insane! This has been happening to us for the last 6 months or so,and I was convinced it was from my husband's underwear. I am 26, not pregnant and have been on the same birth control pills for years. Has no one really gotten a legit answer from a doctor or other source? Is this something we should be concerned about?
ReplyDeleteMy cousin sent this to me, it might be the answer we are all looking for. http://health.howstuffworks.com/skin-care/problems/medical/chromhidrosis.htm
ReplyDeleteokay I just noticed my toilet is turning blue I am on my period so I am NOT pregnant so maybe it is related to a surge or drop in hormone. I'm on my third day of my cycle so definitely there is hormones there! Lol hope this helps .
ReplyDeleteIm 9 months pregnant and this just happened to me....so weird!!
ReplyDeleteWell, I feel a little better just like some of you others! For a few months now, I've watched my soft toilet seat get more blue. Since I am a follow up cancer patient since 1992, I began to worry that something on that order was wrong. Had been afraid to say anything to the doctor. I"d been embarrassed to mention it to anyone else just in case it was something weird on my part.Good to know that I am not the only person having this problem. Now if we could only find the answer!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd BTW, I am 59 years old. Not pregnant. I do take supplements. Any answers???
ReplyDeleteJust found out that the cleaner, scrubbing bubbles, will do this too!
ReplyDeleteI am 32 years old, not pregnant, but I am bipolar and am under a lot of stress.
ReplyDeleteI turned the cushy white seat blue, then the hard white seat blue, then made an orangish-brown butt print a top the blue stain on the cushy seat. Its really weird, just started happening out of the blue.
Only change is I got a tooth pulled, but wasnt on any meds for it, and I started exercising a bit more. I dont take any prescription meds, no new cleaners, jeans, etc.
Anyone else with a MOOD DISORDER causing this phenomenon?
I am a 45 year old female I had a full hysterectomy I'm not pregnant and can not get pregnant. I to noticed my toilet seat and bedding are blue. I asked my gynecologist about it she aaid she never heard of anything. I'm also a cancer survivor .. Will someone please explain what is going on!
ReplyDeleteHas anybody figured this out yet?? The same thing happened to me two days ago.
ReplyDeleteMy white toilet seat turned blue with my butt print on it. Seems to be getting darker too. I am a 49 year old non pregnant female.
this happened to me a couple weeks ago, stain is still there and I'm kinda freaking out because it's the only bathroom in my apartment and I really don't want people to see it! Also, from the sounds of it, it won't be going away so I'll be buying and replacing the seat right before I move out, I suppose.
ReplyDelete29 year old female, never pregnant, on birth control. This never happened anywhere else before either. so strange!!
Any news? Just happened to me and I am totally freaked out and too curious about the cause and chemistry of it all... 24 year old female.
ReplyDeleteI'm a 64 year old woman. My sheets have a blue stain on them where I sleep. It just happened 3 days ago. I was sick the day it happened. My toilet seat is fine. The stain didn't come out of my sheets in the wash and I used a very good type of oxyclean that usually does a great job on anything I want to whiten. Thank God I'm not the only one as there are already 140 c0mments on this.
ReplyDeleteI am a 60 yr old woman and have just started many changes in my life. I use shae butter on my body, work out in blue stretchy exercise pants, drinking coconut water and pineapple juice, taking coq10, vitamin c pills and have a blue toilet seat now. I am staying in florida USA and I normally live in Canada where I have a normal coloured seat. I do swim in chlorine but have for years.I am in Florida now do you use diff chlorine or water? Glad to know I am not crazy but I just got a message from my sister saying her toilet seat I sat on turned purple too , so embarassing. Any of you have done the things above that I have just changed in my life?
ReplyDeleteI am a 53 year old women and have been experiencing hot flashes for the last year +. I have had a cold/flu over the last few days and other then the typical symptoms my toilet seat has a blue imprint of my back side and my hot flashes have diminished. I will happily live with the blue toilet seat if it means fewer hot flashes. Interesting phenomenon, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOk I have a theory, this has just happened to me and I immediately Googled to see if I was alone and it seems I am not. Over the last few days I've eaten a lot of beetroot, that's rare for me but rarer is the blue toilet seat. Has anyone else been eating lots of Beetroot? Just a thought! j
ReplyDeleteThe same problem here accept it is not blue is marble. Clean it and it goes away. Looks like soot. Will call the company for additional information. The marble effect is on the inside of the lid as well. Perhaps my neighbor's wood burning stoves are the culprits.
ReplyDeleteIt's the seat and the chemicals in the seat and has nothing to do with who is sitting on the toliet. Buy a different seat. This happened to one of our four seats (they tear easily so we buy a lot). The one that turned blue was from a differrent manufacturer than who we usually buy from.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to see this thread. I went to use the bathroom and noticed our seat was very blue all of a sudden, it was the strangest thing in the world. Called my husband to see and we both were just super confused. I use Clorox Spray to clean my bathrooms, or typically something with a bleach agent in it. (comet, etc.) I just thought that between the bleaching agents and that the weather outside had gotten extremely cold (and that bathroom is always cold anyways) that it must have been the perfect blend to make it change colors. The blue is still on the seat but it's significantly lighter, you would have to be up close to even see it now, but it's streaky looking and so I cleaned the bathroom again and used my bleach and it came off some but not all the way. Oddest thing ever and even more so that so many have had this happen to with no real explanation, just theories. (btw, 39 year old female, not pregnant)
ReplyDeleteOctober 17, 2014 I had my IUD-Mirena removed after having it for 6 years; the hormones should have been long gone by then and the baby-making could begin. My doctor told me to go home, have a few drinks and have at it since I appeared to be ovulating as well. The next day my toilet turned bright pink. No baby as of yet and my cycles have steadied at 35 days exactly which would indicate lower progesterone levels. The pink seat has finally faded back to normal since then, but today as I went to the restroom (for the 4th time since getting here at 730 am and it's now 2pm) and noticed my porcelain company toilet has a light blue appearance in the shape of my bum. My stomach has been achy for a few days now and I just had my LMP on 2/27/15...I have read all of the posts since the beginning of this very appreciated thread. My doctors have no idea, but it would be neat to see if I can test my hormone levels today since this just occurred. I will keep y'all posted.
ReplyDeleteOk...well I only noticed this on a soft plastic seat which we only have in my bathroom. I didn't notice it up until today. So I started to think of things it might be. As most of you, my body had no traces of dye or anything. Then I thought of a jumpsuit I bought recently, which is faux leather, black, however, the inside is nylon. It has a zipper from top to literally bottom, to make it easier to go to the bathroom (nothing kinky I swear). I sat on that toilet with this jumpsuit about 4 days ago, so why the colour now? I'm 54 years old, and I'm questioning some of you about hormones, and would love someone providing me with some kind of explanation....and no I'm not pregnant lol : )

ReplyDeleteOh I should add, I just recently started a new supplement, and an all natural burn fat capsule, which I have to take 3 in the morning and 3 at night....hmmmm. Then I was wondering, the past 3 days I have felt lethargic and very tired, is this some kind of Iron deficiency?

ReplyDeleteAs I stated a while back in this thread, mine turned blue a few days after starting fish oil (Omega 3 1360mg)
ReplyDeleteSo it could be this new supplement I'm taking. Also I read on medical site that it could be B12 deficiency.
DeleteI used mineral and Vaseline intensive care lotion containing cocoa butter. I'm 50, never been pregnant, but had menopause /3. I didn't notice it right away. I haven't tried everything to remove it, but I tried bleach to no avail. It's been about 3 years. I'll replace it when I leave my rental. This happened long after any hormone drop that I'm aware of. It seems to have multiple causes related to women's body chemistry.I'm so relieved that I am not going crazy.
DeleteI posted about the fish oil and should have mentioned I am male. I too have been B12 deficient, however I don't think I have been since turning my seat blue.
DeleteI couldn't get rid of it I had to buy a new seat. It's still a mystery for me, but I've put it down to hormones.
ReplyDeleteIm 47yrs old and NOT prego. A few months ago my toilet seat turned blue. I thought that it was just made of cheap material so I replaced it with what I thought was a better quality product. Now its happening again, this time everythings turning blue. The toilet seat, the bathtub that I was standing in and the cover on my couch. What in the World is going on?
ReplyDeleteI still really don't know the mystery behind it. I took the B12 for a little while but have since changed the toilet seat to a better quality, however, see two spots on there which look grey....not big spots, but still makes me wonder what the heck is in my system.
ReplyDeleteI just googled this issue today because it just happened to me for the first time yesterday evening. A few hours before it happened, I had to take a random drug test for work. At the lab, they had put a blue tab in the toilet water, nothing appeared to be on the seat. I naturally assumed that it had something to do with this when it happened. I looked at my skin, and there was no color on it. I was able to get the stain off the seat with Clorox cleanup which is what I always clean the toilet with. I took a shower and scrubbed my skin really well and didn't think anything of it until it happened again this morning. What is going on? How can the blue water and this be such a coincidence, but there is nothing online that connects the two. ?? I hope it stops. I am not pregnant, but am on the pill and will be getting my period today or tomorrow. (oh, and I'm not on drugs, passed test)
ReplyDelete30 yr old female here from South FL. After a lot of research these last few days I suggest you all to look up the rare condition Chromhidrosis/Pseudochromhidrosis. It seems to make a lot of sense with this turning things blue phenomena. Chromhidrosis is associated with our sweat glands (apocrine/eccrine) and the color emitted from the sweat has to do with a certain bacteria on the skin. Please look it up & read on the 2 types of Chromhidrosis & see which may apply to your symptoms. I myself have turned everything blue. Toilet seat, bedsheets, underwear, clothes, even my beige purse turned blue, along with my fingernails have a bluish tint. Yesterday I noticed my white tank top i wore for less than an hour turned blue & was a darker blue around my bra area where you tend to sweat. This is leading me to think it may be chromhidrosis. So far, I read of a girl who bathed in Hibiclens(an antibacterial wash) and it got rid of the blue problem. I have some Hibiclens already so I am going to try this. Hope it works!! Good luck to you guys all dealing with this weirdness. We are not alone :) Btw, you can find Hibiclens at Walgreens, ect.
ReplyDeleteWell on top of another toilet seat turning blue, I just got a new Smartwatch with a white leather strap....turning blue after 4 days.....What is this???
ReplyDeleteActually, totally not pregnant and it just happened. I noticed it after a party, who knows who sat there but not one of our guests is pregnant. I know that for a fact. So, major weirdness. I could have a drop in hormones, I guess, I am perimenopausal.
ReplyDeleteOk, I'm a 14 year old virgin and it happened to me....lmfao but I am on my period so does that have something to do with it?

ReplyDeleteNot sure why it happened but it has happened more than once to me so I've tried every way to clean it and finally as I was about to give up I decided to use hand sanitizer with aloe and it works very well to remove the staining let it sit on there for about 5 minutes then wipe away and the stain is gone
ReplyDeleteThanks, I will try that. : )
ReplyDeleteI'm a 67 year old female, who noticed last week that my toilet seat was turning a fairly dark pink. I went to my doctor yesterday & told her about my bottom turning my toilet seat pink, as well as my clothes & shoes. She looked at me like I was crazy, even though I showed her a picture of my toilet seat. The only thing I can think of that has changed for me is in the last month I was cleaning up black mold.. Along with turning things pink, I'm very sick & not sure why. I would really like to know why this is happening to me & others!

ReplyDeleteAnother thing I would also like to add to my above post is that I am itchy all over. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks everyone for your posts!
ReplyDeleteThe mystery of turning my clothes & toilet seat pink, as well as itchiness is solved! It was caused by new red sheets. Even though I washed them 3 -4 for times before putting them on my bed, they still turned me pink & made me itch! Yea! Mystery solved!
ReplyDeleteThrew-out the red sheets, but could not clean the pink off my toilet seat; had to throw it away. Bought a new seat over a month ago & it's a white as the day I bought it.
DeleteWe have 3 toilets in our home. The two my 13yr old daughter use most are turning blue! The one seat she never uses is in our master bath. All 3 are hard white painted/coated seats. I'm sure it's not pregnancy but she has only had her period less than a year so maybe hormones? Any tips on how to remove or fade this? I don't want to buy new seats if it's just going to keep happening!
ReplyDeleteAnother blogger said she used acetone (fingernail polish remover) and that if faded the color, but didn't totally remove it. I tried it to with the same results. Maybe if repeated multiple times it will come off. Today, however, I'm more interested in the "why?" I need to lose around 35 - 40 pounds. I saw another blogger said that, but the people that started this are slim. So, I'm doubting that as a factor. Take care and in the meantime Happy Holidays.
DeleteTwo blue seats in the house....got very dark in one week. Im 47. Not prego. Was premenstrual.. So frustrating.
ReplyDeleteI'm a 28 year old male and I just turned my toilet seat very blue. I live alone, and no one other than myself has used my bathroom in the past several weeks. So for those trying to determine the culprit of this phenomenon, do not rule out the male in the house!
ReplyDeleteI am not pregnant (currently on my monthly cycle) but my toilet seat is also blue. It is so bizzar. I have been trying to figure out why for weeks!

DeleteDo you use fabreeze at all? I too turned my seat blue but nothing is new besides new fabreeze..
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteThis has happened to me twice, I went online to find out why the toilet seat turns blue, to no avail. But I did find out that pure acetone will remove it, but you have to really scrub it and you will see it on the paper towel or cloth that you use. I hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteI turned two toilet seats blue (in my butt print, 48 year old pre/borderline-menopausal woman) a few months ago when I was taking several supplements. Threw the seats way in embarrassment before company came over. (Seats ware painted wood.). New seats stayed white. I mentioned to my doctor, she laughed, said let her know if anything else happens. I decided to take JUST the magnesium supplement and only sit on the upstairs toilet seat. It started turning blue. I stopped taking the magnesium before the blue got real dark. The seat remains a slight blue. I have been under some stress, But my main theory is a hormone/magnesium relationship (and sweat/open pores from shower could add to it). I will pass this thread on to my doctor - thank you all!
ReplyDeleteYup... I've been experiencing the blue toilet seat too! Only advice I can give you to remove it is nail polish remover. Pour some of that over and that patch goes instantly! Didn't worked when I wiped it over, had to be poured directly on the spot. But atleast I got it off! Lol!
